About Palmerston North Rural Fire services

Rural Fire Officers are on 24 hour, 365 day call out to attend fires. Response time to pager call is under 10 minutes. Often the New Zealand Fire Service and a Rural Fire Officer will arrive at a fire first, to be followed by the Volunteer Rural Fire Fighting Crew.

The Palmerston North City Council is the Rural Fire Authority for the area.

Palmerston North Volunteer Rural Force

Our volunteer rural fire fighting crew consists of council staff and volunteers from the public. As at June 2008 there are 19 members.

A specialist 4WD Mitsubishi Fire Appliance is held in the Depot on Fergusson St and the volunteer fire fighters are called out whenever a major vegetation fire occurs in the rural areas of Palmerston North.
