The Palmerston North City Council also administers the Terrace End and Ashhurst Cemeteries.
Kelvin Grove Cemetery and Crematorium is situated on 36 hectares of park-like surroundings in James Line. James Line is off Napier Road, the main road to Ashhurst and Napier from Palmerston North.

Terrace End Cemetery
Established in 1875, this was the second public cemetery in Palmerston North, the first being on the site of the present day Showgrounds. The cemetery has been administered by the Council since 1902 and is now closed for sale of new plots, although people with existing family plots may still be buried there.

Ashhurst Cemetery
The Ashhurst Cemetery is located within the Ashhurst Domain adjacent to the camping ground. The Cemetery is of great historical significance to the community with many of their ancestors and family members buried there. A Services section is located towards the eastern end of the cemetery.

Kelvin Grove Cemetery
Opened in 1927, this cemetery was to replace the old Terrace End Cemetery on Napier Road. The Crematorium and Chapel were added in 1954.
The cemetery performs approximately 180 burials and 650 cremations each year.
A Book of Memories is kept on display at the Crematorium Chapel. Entry into the book must be requested at the time of cremation. More recently a memorial garden has been developed where a commemoration plaque recognises the ashes plot and offers a popular alternative to the standard headstone. The Crematorium Chapel is also available for committal and full services.
The Kelvin Grove cemetery office is open Monday to Friday 9am – 12 noon.

Hours of operation
The Kelvin Grove, Terrace End and Ashhurst cemeteries are open for public visiting seven days a week.
Summer (Daylight Saving hours) - 8am to 8pm
Winter - 8am to 6pm
Kelvin Grove Lawn Cemetery, Ashhurst and Terrace End Cemeteries are available for internments from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 12 noon on Saturday. Public Holidays are excluded.
