Over the past few weeks I have been incredibly proud of the way our community has got behind efforts to assist the people of Christchurch. Some of the efforts to get food and resources down there have been incredible.

The year is off to a flying start. The weather has improved so that must mean that school has started, tertiary students are flooding into the city full of youthful enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.

It seems that every week someone is celebrating a milestone of some kind. Recently Palmerston North celebrated making it over the 80 000 population mark.

It’s awards season in Palmerston North. I don’t mean Emmy awards (though it’s nice to see some getting recognition in Hollywood) or academy awards, but our very own Civic Awards.

People often ask me if it is really worth talking to the Council and will the Council listen. My answer is most certainly yes, and the recent 10 Year Plan process only proves my point.
