Up to Date with Council Works
Date: Thursday 05 November 2009
The City Council considers it's important to keep people up to date with its ongoing projects, renewals and maintenance in the areas of water and wastewater, roading and recreation and community facilities.
All of this work is intended to maintain or improve services around Palmerston North. In the case of road works people may choose to take another route to and from the city or across town to avoid any possible delays.
The major works as at November 5 are, as follows;
- The reconstruction of Railway Road has begun from the overbridge to El Prado Drive with a completion date for the first section by Christmas
- Water main renewals are taking place in Kelvin Grove Road and McLeavey Drive, the connecting streets of Edgeware Road, Ivanhoe Terrace and Wellesbourne Street and Cuba Street. The travelling public are asked to take care as there could be some disruption
- Work has now been completed to relocate the footpath immediately behind the bus shelter in Main Street to line up with the entrance to Downtown
- Work continues on widening the top end of Scotts Road. The Council advises there could be major delays during periods of the day
- Ashley Street remains closed to through traffic while an airbridge is installed above the road from the Plaza to the Farmers development
- The annual programme to reseal city streets will start in late November and continue throughout summer
- Work has begun on installing a roundabout at the intersection of Lyndhurst and Chelwood Streets
- Stormwater renewals and the replacement of vehicle crossings are underway in Wiltshire Place with a completion date of mid November
- Kerb and channel work starts on Monday in Cook Street near Just Place
