Informal Community Meetings

Palmerston North City Council runs informal community meetings in each main area or ward of the city.

The meetings provide an opportunity for discussion between Ward residents and the Council on matters affecting Ward residents.

Key features of the meetings are as follows:

• They provide opportunities for the residents of the city to engage with the Council, enhancing a two-way flow of information and ideas.
• They are “informal” in the sense they are not part of the Council's formal committee structure, and therefore not bound by the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, nor are they subject to the Council's Standing Orders.
• They are chaired by Councillors from respective areas or wards of the city, who then report back outcomes of the informal meetings to the relevant Council committee(s).
• They occur at least four times a year. Additional meetings may be called to address specific issues, by agreement with Ward Councillors, the Mayor and the Chief Executive.
