Between 6pm and 7am and in the weekends, they will respond to urgent callouts such as dog attacks, reports of aggressive dogs, retrieving roaming dogs that have been secured on private property, and wandering stock on roads.
Animals in the pound

If you discover that your dog is missing, or if you find your dog on this register, please contact us on 06 356 8199. If your dog is impounded and is currently registered, it may be quickly returned to you.
Note: We will only release your dog once we've confirmed it is registered and all fees are paid.
Report a found dog
To report a found dog call us on 06 356 8199. If the dog’s friendly and you’re happy to hold it until the owner can be contacted, let us know. Otherwise staff will collect the dog and hold it in the pound.
If you have reported your dog lost and it has since been found, please call and let us know.
We don’t expect people to restrain roaming dogs. However, if the dog is approachable and you can do so safely, animal control will pick it up from you as soon as possible.
If the dog/s are not approachable or aggressive our advice is to not approach it and we will attend as soon as we can. Our staff may be out on other call outs so we will be there as soon as we can.
Please contact us as soon as possible on 06 356 8199 with as much information as you can. It will help us to know:
- A description of the dog
- Where the dog was last seen
- The direction the dog was heading
- If you know where the dog lives
