The website now has a Community Directory and an Events Calendar which allows organisations to list their own information and activities.
Web Manager, Hamish Richardson, says the community directory, available on the "Quick Links" panel of the home page, offers community based organisations the opportunity to list themselves in the directory via the website.
"We're providing organisations with the opportunity to compile their own information and contact details," Hamish says. "Including the community in the website has been an integral part of our strategy to make it available to them."
The Council is progressively contacting organisations to make them aware of the opportunity.
In all there is a broad range of categories in the community directory including beliefs and culture, hobbies, interests, sports and exercise to youth and travel and tourism.
The events calendar already exists on the web but Hamish is now making it available to organisations that wish to list their own activities and events.
He explains that, if people wish to use the service, they can access the events calendar via the "Quick Links" panel, register their organisation and create an event listing.
"The Council's website is receiving more than 25,000 unique user visits and in excess of 115,000 page views per month, so the exposure for an event or to profile an organisation is considerable," Hamish says.
Since going live on April 16, the Palmerston North website has attracted nearly half a million hits with visitors throughout the world including some from remote locations such as Kazakhstan, Estonia and Sweden.
"The Council has also received praise from other local authorities both in New Zealand and in the United Kingdom, Italy and California," he says.
