Reconstruction work was required as settlement of the existing retaining wall beneath the northern abutment was threatening to damage the bridge structure. The original wall was built in 1963, not long after the footbridge was opened.
The footbridge carries services such as water, sewer, gas, power and telephone to the Chalet and these were disconnected for a short time to allow the structural work to be undertaken. Some repairs to steelwork on the existing bridge were also carried out.
The PNCC would like to thank the public for their patience while the bridge was closed. The repairs took longer than anticipated due to the poor weather and the extra work done on the existing structure.
