"Upgrading the Main Bus Terminal so that it can service Palmerston North as the city moves towards becoming a vibrant sustainable metropolitan city is a challenging project," says Palmerston North City Council chief executive Paddy Clifford.
"Our intention was and always will be to listen in good faith to residents."
Following requests by retailers at a meeting earlier this year the Council sought two independent reports on parking implications and acoustics both of which are publically available on the Council website.
Mr Clifford says, "Council is focused on getting the long-term project back on track for the sake of the city as a whole."
Options for the Main Bus Terminal upgrade were to go before the Council's Policy Planning Meeting on 11 June. "That's now been put on hold while staff work on developing a way forward which will be shared with Councillors and residents before consultation begins again", says Mr Clifford.
"I am confident that we can develop a facility that the city will be proud of and one that will cope with our rising population alongside increasing fuel prices."
