Free wireless internet now 24 / 7

Tuesday February 26 2013

WiFi has been available at the city library, the Youth Space and branches for some time however it has been restricted to library opening hours. Now the service had been expanded to allow users 24/7 access to internet content.

Palmerston North City Library and Community Services content manager Shannon Simpson says the library is committed to providing residents with easy access to information. "It's another example of how the Library & Community Services is enabling and inspiring people to explore the pathways of the world."

Anyone within range, which at the Central Library branches out to some areas of George St and The Square, can connect to the network on a WiFi-enabled laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Shannon Simpson says the coverage outside the library building is variable however most cafes on George Street already have access.

"This is great news for visitors to the area as files of up to 800mb can be downloaded with the Library WiFi and there is no data cap."

We've taken steps to ensure safe browsing. Users must agree to terms and conditions of use and there are filters to prohibit access to inappropriate material.

The WiFi service is provided in partnerships with Aotearoa People's Network Kaharoa.
