Globe Theatre officially opens

Wednesday May 21 2014

Palmerston North City Council Mayor Jono Naylor said the
Globe is an icon of the Palmerston North performing arts community.

"For many years it has performed very well, but it was time for an upgrade.  The new facilities are fantastic and will serve our community well for many years to come and will allow another generation of performers to share their talents with us," he said. "I offer my congratulations to all who have been involved in bringing this project together".

The opening heralds the start of an impressive line-up of local and international theatre productions and concerts.

Globe Theatre manager Bruce Warwick says Calendar Girls will kick off the opening of The Globe tomorrow night and The Four Freshmen will play as part of the International Jazz and Blues Festival on Queen's Birthday weekend.

"Globe's journey began in 1983 and over the years thousands of local actors, singers and musicians have entertained and thousands of Manawatū folk have loved coming here," Bruce said. "Together the Palmerston North City Council and The Globe Theatre Trust Board are delighted to be breathing new life into the re-constructed Globe and showcasing the talent in our community. Here's to many more enjoyable nights on Main Street!"

Also visiting the Globe will be Angela Ayers, Titanium, Sam Hunt and Gary McCormack.
