Council asks food outlets to seek identification

Monday March 2 2015

Palmerston North City Council has received reports over the last two weeks that a member of the public is impersonating an Environmental Health Officer.

The individual concerned has been visiting food outlets in the City and carrying out inspections of premises and stock. Of particular interest are the contents of freezers.

Wayne Jameson Head of Environmental Protection Services says all Council officers carry identification on them.

"Our officers are both qualified and authorised to carry out inspections. If business owners have any concerns they should request the officer wait while they ring the Council to confirm their identity."

Police have been made aware of the incidents and encourage business owners to note the person's description and registration of any vehicle used, and to contact police at the time.
