Festival of Cultures
Friday 3 March to Sunday 5 March 2017
This exciting and vibrant festival is one of the longest-standing community events in Palmerston North, when we celebrate art, culture and lifestyle and explore our connections to each other and New Zealand.
Fireworks over the river
Look to the skies above Anzac Park (Te Motu o Poutoa) as Palmerston North goes off with a bang. This free night-time spectacle will blast off from above the Manawatū River and can be seen from locations throughout the city – including plenty of back gardens.
Christmas tree lighting
Celebrate the start of the festive season with the lighting of the Palmerston North Christmas tree in the Square and carols performed by local community choirs.
Christmas parade and market
Santa is coming to town with nonstop activity in the Square from early in the morning, culminating in the annual Christmas parade in the afternoon. Shop for locally made goodies at the market, enjoy the entertainment on stage, and then line up and watch the parade.
Christmas concert in the Square
Father Christmas will be on stage for a seasonal evening of carols and popular songs performed by local entertainers and community choirs.
New Year's Eve in the Square
31 December 2017
Pack up the kids, grab a blanket and enjoy fantastic family entertainment with the special kids’ countdown at 9.30pm, followed by a traditional countdown at midnight for those who stay to see in the New Year.
Sounds of summer Esplanade Sunday concerts
January and February 2018
Spend Sunday afternoons at Victoria Esplanade, soaking up sun and sounds with a series of free concerts featuring local musicians.
Join us at Te Manawa for family activities, food and music to commemorate the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and celebrate our shared history.
Experience one of our city’s most loved recreational spaces as Victoria Esplanade comes alive with a carnival atmosphere, complete with community stalls, food and entertainment.
