A monthly street food event supported by Palmerston North City Council launches in the city this Thursday 2 June.

Thursday Night Street Feast will showcase quality street food from around the globe, using New Zealand’s world-beating produce, alongside the very best local entertainment.

Inspired by the night markets of the Far East and London with their delicious cheap eats, Thursday Night Street Feast takes that buzz and gives it a distinctly Kiwi feel.

The family-friendly event promises to become a ‘must do’ on the City’s calendar.

It will take place on the last Thursday evening of every month, with a different theme each time.

The first is from 5.30pm to 9pm on Thursday 2 June, in the Square.

Thursday Night Street Feast is already making its mark on the food scene south of here.

It has developed a firm following amongst Wellington foodies since launching its first event in Lower Hutt in July 2015, in conjunction with the Hutt City Council revitalisation project.

At its peak last year the Thursday Night Street Feast drew 5,000 people to Lower Hutt’s High Street, helping to breathe new life into the local CBD.

This year the event has been rolled out further to Levin and Palmerston North.

With Jamaican, Greek, Mexican and more, the Thursday Night Street Feast will be offering something for everyone.

Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith says “We’re delighted to be supporting this destination event that we believe provides an avenue for foodies as well as artists and entertainers. It will be a central meeting place for people of all ages and will be a catalyst in developing a sense of community and creating a more vibrant CBD.”
