Tēnā koutou katoa - Greetings from Palmerston North.
The City is a great place where we have chosen to bring up our three children and there are lots of choices regarding education. There are some great schools and my children are in a bilingual education programme. My wife has recently graduated with a doctorate from our City's university.
My job is quite diverse and involves working with the local indigenous Māori community, as well as a wider role in community policy. Council recently adopted a Māori community strategy which is focused on more active support for this important part of our community. I also have opportunities to support the wider organisation as a convener of the Māori staff group and a Local Government union delegate.
There's a positive and cooperative work environment in my team and the wider Council, and I'm encouraged and supported to be creative and continue learning new skills.
Many of us cycle (15 minutes from most parts of the City) or walk to work each day and the Council provides a secure and sheltered cycle area for staff.
