Linklater Reserve is 25.5 hectares in size but only 5.5 hectares has been opened up to the public to date. The remaining 20 hectares will be developed over the next five years.
Palmerston North's country park
The Council is proposing a country park theme for the reserve. The theme reflects the park's location on the city's rural boundary, and fits with community suggestions for the park. All developments on the Linklater Reserve will support and build on this theme where possible.
Draft development plan for Linklater Reserve
The Linklater Reserve Draft Development Plan sets out a range of proposals to develop the park over the next five years, including the estimated cost for each element. The proposals are based on ideas people gave us during the initial planning phase in 2015. These ideas were weighted towards adventure play, walking, mountain biking and dog facilities.

Funding and support
The Council has allocated $1.25 million between 2016 and 2021 to develop the Linklater Reserve.
The project has also received wonderful support to date from the Fitzherbert Lions and Kelvin Grove Community Association and volunteers and community groups for planting days.
We will consider all community feedback before producing a final development plan with detailed designs and an assessment of consenting requirements. We can then produce a workplan for development, staged against the budget.
