Draft domestic sustainability strategy

How can we support you to live in a more sustainable way? We want to hear what barriers are in your way so we can help to address them. We invite you to have your say by 8 August.

Using a low-flow shower head can cut your hot water bill. It's just one thing you can do to make your home more sustainable.

Palmerston North wants to become more sustainable. Six years ago the Council adopted our overarching sustainable city strategy. You told us where you'd like to see sustainability improvements.

You want better water and energy efficiency, more native trees, more transport options, better engagement with Māori, and more.

Achieving our sustainability goals for the city is is going to take a lot of work, both from Council and residents.

The task is much easier if we help each other out. For example: if we can help people use less water, we won’t need to build as many pumps and pipes. Not building those pipes means more money for other things, or even a lower rates bill.

What's stopping you from living more sustainably at home?

We want to know about the barriers you face. Let us know by 8 August 2016.

Other questions to consider:

  • Is this the right approach?
  • What's missing from the strategy?
  • What do we need to focus on first?
  • Should we extend the strategy to include commercial businesses?
