Draft economic development strategy

Submissions on the draft strategy closed on 13 July 2016. Council considered the strategy at a meeting in September 2016 but did not adopt it.

The Council’s support for economic development stems from its desire to support more jobs and higher incomes, improved quality of life, making it easy for businesses to invest here, ensuring there are good transport and communication links, and improved city reputation.

Council funds a range of organisations in partnership with Manawatū District Council to implement actions for economic development activities in the Manawatū region. These are: Central Economic Development Agency, Sport Manawatū, Building Clever Companies (previously known as the Bio Commerce Centre), Palmerston North Convention Centre, Central Energy Trust Arena, and Manfeild Park. Council also provides roading, water and wastewater networks which businesses rely on, and ensures sufficient land is zoned to enable business growth and investment.
