Community survey

Council uses surveys and focus groups to find out what people want, and what they think about Council services.

The Communitrak Survey is an independent survey that happens every three years. The results help Councillors set the direction of Council and make decisions. They also provide Council staff with information about services.

In 2016, 400 residents were interviewed over the telephone by the National Research Bureau. The sample was selected to reflect the neighbourhood, gender and age structure of the city.

We supplement the survey with focus groups. These involve more detailed face-to-face discussions with 55 randomly selected residents. We focus on young people and people with low incomes, because their views are often harder to get.

Overall, the research shows that most people are satisfied with the Council’s services.

We use the results for all of our planning, especially the 10 Year Plan.
