Construction of the 10km pipeline between Ashhurst and Palmerston North was awarded in August 2013 to Higgins Construction. This project was completed in April 2014.
This means better treatment of Ashhurst's wastewater through the Palmerston North plant. The pipeline has been completed, and a new pump station constructed all of Ashhurst's wastewater to be pumped to Palmerston North for treatment.
Ashhurst's wastewater was being treated and discharged downstream of the Ashhurst bridge. The decision to pump the wastewater was made in conjunction with Horizons Regional Council's objective of reducing the number of discharges to the river, and taking into account the Manawatu River Accord goal of improving the quality of the Manawatū River.
