Burglary prevention trial

If you live in West End or Highbury, we’ve got an opportunity for you to improve your home security system.

We’ve jumped on board the Ora Konnect Alliance group to bring a free trial – Ko Tōu Manawa, Ko Tōku Manawa Your heart, my heart – to the city to try and prevent crime in these suburbs.

Free security assessment

A member of the Police burglary prevention team will first check your existing security system in your home, car(s) and other outside areas on your property. This will help the team to know what may be suitable for you. If an upgrade is suitable then the installation is free of charge. It may include items such as:

  • Window latches, door locks and garage/shed locks
  • Security lighting
  • House alarms
  • Trimming overgrown bushes and trees
  • Car alarms or steering wheel locks
  • Signs
  • Security advice

How to take part

All whānau living in the trial designated boundaries are able to access this initiative. Whether you rent or own a home, this is an opportunity for you.

The Ko Tōu Manawa website has more information about what’s involved.

Check now to see if you are in the trial area

Community events

Ora Konnect will be running a few barbecues with the streets who are eligible for the security upgrades to get feedback on the trial. Council will also be running one so keep an eye out in your letterbox for an invitation.

We’ve joined alongside Ora Konnect partners for this trial: New Zealand Police, Community Patrols New Zealand, Kāinga Ora, Best Care Whakapai Hauora Charitable Trust, Highbury Whanau Centre, Te Aroha Noa, Te Tihi, Te Wakahuia and ThinkHauora.
