Drop-in sessions: Featherston Street safety upgrades

Next date: Thursday, 01 December 2022 | 05:30 PM to 07:00 PM

The busy intersection of Featherston and Rangitikei Streets, where 4 lanes collide in 4 directions.

We want to make Featherston Street safer for everyone and we want to hear your ideas.

There have been 270 crashes in the past 10 years between Botanical Road and North Street.

Waka Kotahi - NZ Transport Agency is funding pedestrian and a new, or in some locations, upgrading the existing cycleway in this area. Between Boys’ High and Central Normal it will fund 90% as part of its Streets for People project, and the other portion receives 51% funding.

We identified the street as one of our top priorities in our 2019 Urban Cycle Network Masterplan, which aims to provide a network of protected safe cycleways to encourage more people to choose to ride bikes. We can promise that planter boxes will not feature in the cycleway design!

For now we’re looking at just the section between Botanical Road and North Street, but we will be connecting the rest of Featherston up too shortly.

This is a good time to tell us what is important for you on the street and whether you have any concerns about safety. Do you feel safe walking along our footpaths, biking on the existing cycleway or navigating the street in your vehicle? How could your experience be improved?
