The Festival of Colours is returning to Palmerston North on Friday 17 March, with Te Marae o Hine – The Square set to transform into a colourful playground.

This Holi-inspired event will be a chance for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and embrace the vibrant spirit of Palmerston North.

Head of Events, Luke McIndoe, says the festival will feature live performances and the throwing of powder paint, until after the sun goes down.

“We’re inviting all of our communities to join in on the festivities and splash paint on their friends and family, while being entertained by some of the top artists and DJs in the region. We’re stoked to be working with Damian McGregor, the one and only DJ Dfresh, who is putting together an epic line-up for the evening.”

The event will run from 6:00 – 9:30pm, with the first half dedicated more towards tamariki, and the second half being for all ages.

Entry to the Festival is free and coloured powder will be available in exchange for a gold coin or a donation of one’s choosing. All proceeds will be donated to the Napier Response Fund.

“We won’t be selling t-shirts this year, so instead, wear your not-so-favourite or not-so-expensive white t-shirt and head on down.”

The paint powder available is fully non-toxic and washable, however, there’s a chance it may still stain clothing. Water stations will also be situated in and around Te Marae o Hine.

Coordinated paint throwing will take place at 6.30, 7.30 and 8.30pm. Face painting, give-it-a-go murals and a photo booth will also be at hand for eventgoers to enjoy.

“This event marks the last of our ‘summer’ events, so don’t miss out on this fun opportunity to come together and celebrate Palmy’s unique spirit!”

Since this is an outdoor event, the weather is being closely monitored. Any changes or weather updates will be made to our website and Facebook event.
