Protecting notable trees
Published on 04 May 2017
Trees make a significant contribution to the health, look and feel of our neighbourhood. Palmerston North City Council wants you to let us know if there are any special trees that need our protection.
These notable trees can be on public or private land, native or exotic, and have historical, botanical or environmental value. Council believes notable trees deserve special care so we can safeguard them for future generations to enjoy. You may find some examples when you are out and about or you may have one on your property.
The Notable Tree Incentive Scheme allows notable tree owners to apply for reimbursement of arborist work, up to $400 for an individual tree, and $1,500 for a group of trees.
Although the primary responsibility to maintain a tree lies with the property owner, the quality of regular maintenance can have a significant impact on a tree's ability to grow healthily. The Notable Tree Incentive Scheme helps to reduce maintenance costs for notable tree owners.
If you spot a tree you think could be worth protecting, email Keegan Aplin-Thane or call him on 06 356 8199
