While our awa remains high, we are reminding people to stay away from the river and other waterways. Please don't go near floodwater, and do not play or walk through the water.

Rubbish and recycling collections will go ahead as usual today

Please put your bags, wheelie bins or glass crates out on the kerb by 7.30am.

Awapuni Resource Recovery Park is open to the public today, and our recycling centres at Ferguson Street and Ashhurst are operating.

Riverside Drive remains closed

Tip Road and the Corner of Park Road and Botanical Road are reopened, while Riverside Drive remains closed.

Parks and pathways

We are working hard today to clear much of the debris in our parks and walkways.

Fulton Hogan is clearing debris from Riverside Drive to the Fitzherbert Bridge. Our Council parks team has cleared debris from all sportsfields and they are now working from Dittmer Drive towards Ahimate, Paneiri Park and Rangitāne Park on Maxwells Line. As debris is cleared, we will reopen sections of the walkway.

Our focus will then shift to the Linton side of the river pathway, including the Urban Eels Sanctuary and Turitea Pā lookout.

Please avoid sections of walkways, bridges and facilities if closed signs are still in place. We are also asking everyone to keep yourselves and your pets away from the river space while our teams are on site over the coming days, as we don’t know if debris or contamination has come from upstream, or what objects could be buried under the silt.

At this time He Ara Kotahi remains closed.

State Highways

Some roads are closed, including by Newbury and Opiki. The Saddle Road reopened at 2.30pm yesterday under reduced speeds of 60km.
