Tell us how, or if, you use our Community Centres

A single story steel building with a pitched roof.

How often do you use your local community centre? Once a week? Once a year? Never?

We’re in the very early stages of reviewing the way our community centres operate and we’d really like to hear from you on whether you use them, how you use them, and if there’s any way we could improve how they’re currently run.

Council has nine community centres in neighbourhoods across the city, which provide bookable spaces for social, recreational and educational activities. The centres give people opportunities to take part in community activities, learn new skills and share their interests and talents with the wider community.

Our community centres are located in Awapuni, Bunnythorpe, Highbury, Kelvin Grove, Milson, Westbrook, Rangiora, Terrace End and Ashhurst.

General Manager for Customer and Community Danelle Whakatihi says the review is about making sure these public spaces meet the needs of the community.

“We aim for our community centres to be affordable, easy to access, well used parts of their neighbourhoods and the city. To make sure they’re as accessible as possible, we need to hear from the people and groups that use their centres and if not, what any barriers may be, so that our community centres are open to all.”

The feedback will be summarised and included in a report to elected members about the review. To let us know your thoughts, please fill out our simple online survey by Friday 14 February.
