Council & City

Healthy beverage policy

This policy encourages the provision of healthy beverage choices at Council venues, to contribute to improved health for those within Council, and to model good health behaviours for the wider community.

It was developed in consultation with MidCentral DHB and takes into consideration current contracts in Council premises.

At Council funded events and functions sugary drinks will be replaced with healthier options such as water, 100% fruit juice and zero sugar carbonated drinks. Council libraries and community centres will not sell sugar sweetened beverages such as soft drinks and flavoured milk.

Contractors selling drinks at the Lido Aquatic Centre and Central Energy Trust Arena can continue with sales , but may opt to voluntarily comply with the new policy, until their contracts come up for re-negotiation.

Council adopted this policy in September 2017.
