Community planting

It's important to have areas of natural biodiversity around our neighbourhoods, both for conservation and recreation. Everyone can contribute by joining a community planting day in your area.

Palmy planting projects

Green Corridors

Green Corridors Palmerston North hosts regular planting days in the Turitea Valley during planting season and is always on the lookout for volunteers.

Pit Park

The Pit Park people have been operating since 1997 rehabilitating an old quarry site in Roslyn, with a successful tract of land that brings native birds and frogs back to urban Palmerston North.

Connecting the local refugee community and Department of Corrections inmates to a place of purpose through a shared vision, this park has lots of opportunities for planting, weeding, mulching, and gathering together throughout the year.

Follow Pit Park on Facebook to find out about upcoming planting days.

Hei Manga Ora

The Hei Manga Oranga project (to restore an arm of the stream) is a partnership between Tanenuiarangi Manawatū, Sustainable Coastlines, Horizons Regional Council, Monrad Intermediate, and Palmerston North City Council.

Through cleaning up and replanting our urban waterways, Hei Manga Ora is bringing mauri back to the Kawau Stream, an often forgotten urban waterway that feeds our mighty Manawatū River.
