What happens after the hearings?

The committee will meet to discuss the submissions (both written and oral), and debate any changes to the proposed policy as a result of the consultation process.

The committee will then make recommendations to the Council on what they believe the final policy should be.

The Council will meet to consider these recommendations, probably around May or June 2020, and will make the final decision. If the decision is to adopt the draft local alcohol policy, it will become the provisional local alcohol policy.

Following the adoption of the provisional policy, there will be an appeals period of at least one month. The Council is required by the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 to give notice of the appeals period and the process for making an appeal.
