Further notice of poll to decide whether a Māori ward or wards should be established for Palmerston North City Council

A poll of Palmerston North City Council electors will be held on Saturday 19 May 2018. The poll is to decide whether a Māori ward or wards should be established for Palmerston North City Council.

The result of the poll is binding on Palmerston North City Council. If the preferred option is that a Māori ward or wards be established, then a Māori ward or wards will be established for the Council’s 2019 and 2022 elections.

The poll will be conducted by postal voting. Voting opens on Friday 27 April and closes at 12pm on Saturday 19 May.

The poll will use the first past the post electoral system.

Residents and ratepayers for Palmerston North City not listed on the final electoral roll can enrol up to 4pm on Friday 18 May, the day before voting closes. All such persons will also need to apply for a special vote.

  • Residents may enrol by calling 0800 36 76 56, visiting the elections website elections.org.nz or completing an enrolment form available at Post Shops, any branch of the Palmerston North City Library or Council’s Customer Service Centre.
  • Ratepayer electors who live outside the city may enrol by completing an enrolment form available from the Electoral Officer.

Enrolment and special voting facilities will be available at the Palmerston North City Council Customer Service Centre, 32 The Square, Palmerston North during normal office hours between Friday 27 April and Friday 18 May and from 8am to 12pm on Saturday 19 May.
