Road closures

Roads in Palmerston North may be closed for lots of reasons, including roadworks and events. This page lists planned road closures that may result in detours and delays, as well as other situations when you might need to take extra care to look out for other road users.

Road closures

Colyton Road

24-25 September

Road closed to through traffic between North Street and Grove Road to clear a tree that is at risk of falling on the road. A signposted detour is in place.

Scheduled roadworks

Edgeware Road (off Rangitikei)

20 June until late September

7am-7pm, Monday to Friday

Kerb and channel replacement, new vehicle crossings, construction of grass berms, and improvements to pedestrian facilities so it's easier to cross the road.

Birmingham Street (between Seddon and Liverpool)

20 June until late September

7am-7pm, Monday to Friday

Kerb and channel replacement.

Ruahine/Church Street intersection

25 September until early December

6.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday (there may be some weekend work, depending on the weather)

Rebuilding roundabout and narrowing approaches to the intersection to improve safety. Includes removing left-turn slip lanes and creating safe crossing points.

The roundabout will operate during most of the construction period, however we advise you to travel with caution or avoid the intersection if possible.
