Manawatū Home Budgeting Service

We offer free, supportive, confidential, and culturally aware budgeting/financial capability services to suit your individual circumstances.

  • Debt management/repayment plans

  • Negotiation with creditors
  • Insolvency – including summary instalment orders, no-asset procedures and bankruptcy

Contact us if you need assistance, are struggling to support yourself or your family, or would like more information. In emergencies, we can help you with costs if you don’t have any other way of paying. Even if you don’t think you qualify, call us to check your eligibility. There may be other options available and we can point you in the right direction. In emergencies, we can help when you can’t work and have lost your income, food, clothing and bedding (immediate needs up to a maximum amount), accommodation costs if you have to move. You may have to pay the money back depending on your situation.

Level 1: We can do a lot to help you over the phone or on MyMSD so you don't need to come and see us. Rather than dropping in, please call us on 0800 559 009. If we need you to come in for a face-to-face appointment, we'll talk with you about booking one at a time that suits you.

We’ll be following Ministry of Health guidelines of maintaining physical distancing of one metre. You’ll be greeted by one of our security staff who will check your name and let us know you’ve arrived. If you need to bring in someone from your whānau, your kids or a support person, that’s okay. We’ll be able to contact trace anyone in any of our buildings. If you have an appointment but start feeling unwell, please stay home and call us instead. If you need to contact us urgently you can use MyMSD or call us. You can also speak to us in languages other than English.
