Council agrees to refer Palmy BID programme to 10 Year Plan

Tuesday December 22 2020

Voting in the poll for a Palmerston North central business improvement district closed on 7 December, with a 60.94% majority in favour of the Palmy BID proposal.

Council's Business Improvement District Policy requires a poll to achieve a 25% voting return with the majority of those votes to be in favour of the proposal. The poll had a 27.8% turnout.

Council agreed at its 21 December 2020 meeting to refer a $250,000 (plus GST) programme into the proposed 2021-31 10 Year Plan, to be funded via a targeted rate to support the promotion and development of our city centre.

Further public consultation will be held as part of the 10 Year Plan consultation.

Palmy BID is a legal entity that was incorporated in August 2019.
