We’re making major changes to the intersection to improve safety around the entrance to Victoria Esplanade. From August, you'll be able to travel directly from Cook Street straight into the park, rather than having to take a sharp right-turn.
For the past 6 weeks, construction has focused on building the new road inside Victoria Esplanade, but our contractors are now turning their attention to the intersection area.
The road is being prepped for the asphalt road surface in front of the new entrance today and tomorrow. The asphalt will be poured next week. For this work to occur, stop/go traffic management will be in place while contractors are at work. This means there’ll be significant delays, so we encourage you to use alternative routes if possible.
No work will occur at the weekend, and the Park Road gates to the park will be open. On weekdays the gates will be closed again over the next couple of weeks, but all other entrances to the park will remain open. Pedestrians and people on bikes can still use the Park Rd entrance.
The intersection upgrade will be completed in late July. Before then, there will be more work occurring at the intersection as traffic lights are installed, so delays may continue to occur from time to time.
