The flyers are available for download from the elections section of the Palmerston North City Council website.
Palmy is home to a range of communities who speak many different languages. We want to make sure that the election is easy to navigate for those who speak multiple languages.
The flyer is currently available in 13 languages:
- Cook Islands Māori
- Simplified Chinese
The flyers cover important election information about standing for Council, enrolling to vote, and how to vote.
After English, te reo Māori is the most spoken language in Palmerston North, while Pasifika and Asian communities make up 18 per cent of our population.
The initiative was spearheaded by the Welcoming Communities programme. The programme was established to ensure newcomers feel welcome to fully participate in the community. This includes being active in all forms of civic participation, such as elections.
English and te reo Māori flyers are available for collection from Council's Civic Administration Building and City Library. Anyone seeking face-to-face help with enrolling or voting is invited to visit the Central Library or the Manawatū Multicultural Council.
