Flooding update

Sunday June 27 2021

Palmerston North residents are being urged to drive with care, after heavy rain in the city today.

Our teams are working around Palmerston North to clear flooding from roads, but this could take a few more hours. If residents need to drive tonight, we ask they slow down, and drive with care.

Our pump stations, which help to move the rain, have been working at full capacity.

During high rain, large amounts of rain enter our wastewater system. During the peak rain this afternoon, 2,000 litres of water per second was coming into our treatment plant. Our plant is operating as it should, and is coping well with the high levels coming in.

Bledisloe Park, Otira walkway and Rāngitane parks are closed due to flooding. All sportgrounds are also closed. We ask that anyone walking on pathways near water, do so with extreme caution.

We will provide further updates if required.
