The contestable fund is to support events that showcase Palmerston North as a destination, increase city visitation, and generating positive exposure that makes our residents #PalmyProud.
PNCC Head of Events and Partnerships, Tasha Paladin is keen to hear from those proposing new events that will add to our city’s creativity and vibrancy, as well as previous recipients wishing to repeat projects that have proved to be successful in meeting the fund’s objectives.
Events this fund has supported in the past include the UCI-accredited Gravel and Tar cycling event, the Ford Ranger New Zealand Rural Games and the National Young Performer Awards.
“These events are a terrific drawcard for our city, not only bringing people in to take part in events, but providing Palmerston North an opportunity to showcase itself to our national and, under normal circumstances, international visitors,” Paladin says.
The minimum application amount of funding to the Major Events Fund is $10,000, with a maximum amount of $30,000. From time to time, special circumstances will be considered. Other financial support the event has secured will be taken into account.
How to apply
This year, applications will be channelled through Council’s community funding website, SmartyGrants. Applicants will find all the supporting information for the Major Events Fund here, including application criteria, event eligibility, funding exclusions and event benefits.
This is a shift from previous years, intending to simplify application timeframes, fund allocations, and event reporting.
Although applications to the Major Events Fund can be submitted online at any time, allowing sufficient time for assessment and approval, it is preferable that applications are lodged online before 1 March 2021 for funding in the same financial year (1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021).
