Major wastewater pipe upgrade in central city

Thursday February 4 2021

Residents are being asked to plan their journeys ahead of time to avoid roadworks as we replace a major wastewater pipe on Ferguson Street.

The 115-year-old wastewater pipe is being replaced and upgraded to a modern PVC pipe, from the Victoria Ave roundabout next to Milverton Park, along to Rawhiti Avenue.

The work will begin on Monday 15 February and will take approximately one month due to the depth of the pipe, which is more than two metres under the road. Our construction crews will be on site from 7.30am to 4.30pm each weekday, and during this time there will be significant traffic management in place, including reduced lanes and detours at times.

We need you to plan your journeys ahead of time and consider different routes to get to your destination to avoid the detours and delays. We’re in touch with education providers, businesses and local residents to let them know of this work. Signs are also being installed surrounding the intersection.

This work needs to be done in daylight due to health and safety requirements.

We appreciate our residents’ patience and understanding as we undertake this vital work to maintain our infrastructure. Over the coming year we will be replacing a series of water pipes in the central city as several of them are more than 100 years old. We’re taking a proactive approach and replacing them with modern pipes that will ensure you continue to get the great water services you’re used to here in Palmy.
