Manawatū River pathway conversations continue

Wednesday January 27 2021

Conversations with landowners bordering part of the Manawatū River continue this year, as we work towards completing the shared path connecting Palmerston North and Ashhurst.

Late last year Council resolved to explore legal options, if required, to secure the land along the river edge necessary to complete the pathway.

In December the landowners were contacted, and we’ve again stated our desire to work together to find a way to build the off road shared pathway along the edge of their properties and the river, ensuring their privacy and security, while allowing their commercial activities to continue.

We want to work with these landowners one-on-one to find the best possible solution, and we will provide any significant updates to the public.

Our residents and visitors also need to remember these sections along the river are private property, and not open to the general public. Some of these landowners are running commercial operations, where health and safety is paramount.

The landowners are able to contact Police if they see unauthorised people entering their properties.
