Positive feedback for CBD dog trial

Wednesday March 6 2019

Dogs could become a permanent feature in the CBD if public reaction remains pawsitive.

A 12-month trial to allow dogs into the city centre began on 23 August 2018.

On Monday, Councillors were told that in the first six months of the trial there has been little concern.

An online Facebook poll three-months into the trial showed that 77 per cent of people thought the trial was ‘going great’.

Council officers also surveyed more than 100 people in the survey, 70 per cent of whom were business owners or operators in the CBD. Ninety-four per cent of those asked said they’d seen positive interactions between dogs and people in the city.

Councillors voted to receive another report in May which would, if complaints remain minimal, likely recommend that dogs are permanently allowed in the CBD.
