Time running out for potential candidates to step forward

Wednesday August 3 2016

With an enthusiastic number of nominations received for the October local government elections, electoral officer Dr John Annabell is reminding people that they only have until midday on Friday 12 August to get their nominations in.

To date the Council has received 24 nominations from potential councillors, however as yet, there have been no nominations for the position of mayor.

Dr Annabell said if you’re a New Zealand citizen, over 18 years of age and you’re on the electoral roll you can stand as a candidate.

“All you need is the desire to represent your community and make a difference to Palmerston North.”

Anyone wishing to stand as an elected member must be nominated by two people enrolled in Palmerston North city and pay a deposit of $200.

Dr Annabell urges potential candidates to get their nominations in as soon as possible as no extensions will be provided.

Completed nomination papers for mayor and councillors of Palmerston North City Council can be lodged at the Customer Service Centre, Civic Administration Building, 32 The Square, Palmerston North.
