What’s an “off-licence”?

An off-licence is a licence to sell alcohol for consumption away from the premises where it is sold from. It is not legal to consume alcohol on an off-licensed premises (except for the purpose of providing samples for tasting).

Examples of off-licensed premises:

  • supermarkets
  • grocery stores
  • wholesalers
  • bottle stores
  • remote sellers (eg, online sales).
