Draft speed limits bylaw

After consultation, we’ve changed the speed limits on some roads around our city. On this page you can find out more about the changes we made.

Thank you to everyone who gave submissions on this proposal. We have considered all submissions received. A new Speed Limits Bylaw was adopted on 21 December 2020. It comes into effect on 1 April 2021.

What are the changes?

This list shows roads where the speed limit has changed and what the new limit will be from 1 April 2021.

Ashhurst

  • Hillcrest Road: From SH3 to Mulgrave Street the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Mulgrave Street: From Hillcrest Road to the existing 50/100km/h transition the new speed limit is 50 km/h.
  • Pohangina Road: From the existing 50/100km/h transition sign to the district boundary the new speed limit is 80km/h.
  • North Street: From Oxford Street to Cambridge Avenue the new speed limit is 50 km/h.
  • Oxford Street: From North Street to Wyndham Street the new speed limit is 50 km/h.
  • Colyton Road: For 150 metres (more or less) from the intersection with North and Oxford Streets the new speed limit is 50km/h.
  • Bunnythorpe Road: For 150 metres (more or less) from the intersection with Mulgrave Street the new speed limit is 50km/h.

Tennent Drive

  • Bypass Road: From Atawhai Road to Tennent Off Lane East Drive the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Tennent On Lane West Drive: From Atawhai Road to Tennent Drive the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Tennent Off Lane East Drive: From Tennent Drive to Summerhill Drive the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Summerhill Drive: From the intersection with Tennent Off Lane East Drive to Tennent Drive and Tennent West Drive the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Tennent Drive: From Fitzherbert Bridge to Prendergast Road the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Tennent Drive West: For the whole western side of the dual carriageway section the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Tennent Drive (from State Highway 57 to Prendergast Road): From Prendergast Road to State Highway 57 the new speed limit is 80km/h.

Milson - Bunnythorpe

  • Roberts Line North (Kelvin Grove Road end): From Kelvin Grove Road to Railway Road the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Roberts Line North (Richardsons Line end): From Railway Road to Richardsons Line the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Railway Road: From the current 50/70km/h transition to 150 metres (more or less) north of the intersection with Roberts Line the new speed limit is 60km/h.
  • Kairanga-Bunnythorpe Road: From the existing 100/50km/h transition for 170 metres (more or less) the new speed limit is 50km/h.
  • Campbell Road: From the existing 100/50km/h transition to the District boundary the new speed limit is 80km/h.
  • Ashhurst Road: From the existing 100/50km/h transition for 400 metres (more or less) the new speed limit is 50km/h.

Pahiatua - Aokautere

  • Pahiatua-Aokautere Road: From the existing 100/80km/h transition to the district boundary the new speed limit is 80km/h.

The following roads will have a new speed limit of 60km/h for their entire length.

  • County Heights Drive
  • Harrison Hill Road
  • Ridgeview Road
  • Kingsdale Park Drive
  • Westwood Drive
  • The Bush Track
  • Polson Hill Drive
  • Wake Place
  • Branksome Place
  • Moonshine Valley Road
  • Whisky Way​
