Draft local alcohol policy

We're drafting a new policy designed to reduce alcohol-related harm and keep our city safe.

Written submissions closed on 18 August, and we held hearings on 16 October.

When analysing submissions we discovered eight premises held licences with trading hours that were different from what would be permitted under the District Plan. These premises would be disproportionately affected by the proposed hours in the draft Local Alcohol Policy.

Some would need to shut as much as four-and-a-half hours earlier than they do now. This was not an intended objective of the draft Local Alcohol Policy. Th proposal to reduce maximum trading hours by one hour was intended to be applied consistently across all licensed premises.

For this reason, we're now pausing our Local Alcohol Policy process to review the District Plan rules. We'll resume developing the policy once the review is complete. If you were part of the submissions process we'll contact you about the District Plan change, and what happens next.

Download the documents below to read our original proposals in full. We've included a report of the research that informed our proposals.
