Sport Manawatū is the regional body that links with the national sports promotion body, Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC). Its vision is "Everyone Active Every Day" and its mission is to "Lead our region in sport and active living to increase participation". In our region, Sport Manawatū has taken a lead role in developing and implementing the Regional Sports and Recreation Strategy. Activities under this strategy range from developing an on-line booking system for sports facilities to the management of franchises of the region's elite sports teams. It includes providing practical and financial support to the numerous community sports groups and activities that take place and working with other agencies to bring major sports events into our region.
Community Services Council
This service for the coordination of social services in the City is provided by the Community Services Council (CSC). It recognises the vital role that the community and voluntary sector plays in the welfare of our citizens. The CSC provides the support, advice, training and advocacy on behalf of the range of social well-being organisations, distributes funding on behalf of Council and builds the capacity of the sector to respond to social needs.
Community Arts Palmerston North
Community Arts Palmerston North is a group dedicated to the arts in Palmerston North. It provides a range of services, aimed at supporting art and creativity within our community, for example by encouraging participation in the arts, by providing access to arts materials and artistic expertise, through the development of art and artists and the marketing of arts products, exhibits and performances.
It operates from the Square Edge building on the Square, which have been developed to provide rentable studio and exhibition space.
