Community Places Research Report

This report provides an overview of community facilities available in Palmerston North, and makes a number of recommendations for future community facility provision.

Over the last decade we’ve received many requests regarding community facilities. In order to respond to these in a coordinated way, we’ve done a citywide assessment of what current facilities are available, to inform future decisions in this area. Planning sustainably for future investment means we need to understand what facilities we have around the city, and where the community need is or will be.

Through Te Rautaki Hāpori Tūhonohono, the Connected Community Strategy we’re committed to ensuring community facilities provide opportunities for people to participate in their community. We believe the best way to do this is through planning and delivering community facilities in partnership with the communities they serve.

The first iteration of this report was adopted by the Council in October 2022.
