Graffiti and tagging
Let's keep our city looking lovely. If you've spotted some tagging, let us know as we may be able to remove it for you or give you a discounted paint voucher.
We believe graffiti has a significant impact on how the city is perceived by its residents and visitors, and take a reactive approach to removing graffiti from public and private property. If you have tagging or graffiti on your property, we can help you remove it, or remove it for you under certain circumstances.
We remove all graffiti from Council-owned property. Where there is tagging on private property, the most appropriate way to manage this is by talking with the property owners.
Criteria for removing graffiti
We can remove graffiti or tagging if it's on exterior walls or fences of residential properties fronting arterial roads: Main Street, Pioneer Highway, Rangitikei Street and Fitzherbert Avenue. We will also remove graffiti from any property in the city centre and suburban shopping centres. We contact property owners for approval before removing any graffiti.
If a tag doesn't meet Council criteria the owner will receive a 50% discount voucher to buy paint from Dulux Trade Centre in Main Street. To qualify for this discount, you need ensure your complaint has been lodged with Council.
