Palmerston North City Council is launching a new monthly email newsletter called Palmy Matters, designed to help residents stay informed about what’s happening across the city.

The name reflects that the newsletter contains information about Council matters, but also because what happens in Palmy matters to our community.

Mayor Grant Smith says the newsletter is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to open and accessible communication.

“We’ve heard from residents that they want more information from us, and this newsletter helps to fill that gap. Palmy Matters will give people a clear and trusted source of updates, direct to their inbox. By sharing consistent, factual updates, we can help people better understand what Council is doing and how it affects them.”

Each edition will share straightforward updates on things like infrastructure work underway or coming up, and upcoming consultations or engagement opportunities for people to have their say.

Council Chief Executive Waid Crockett says the first edition of Palmy Matters will be released late next week, timed with the arrival of the newly elected Council.

“It will include a message from the Mayor and will ask readers what they’d like to see more of or hear more about in future editions. The email newsletter will be sent monthly. We’ve chosen that frequency as we know people are busy and already receive plenty of emails. However, special editions may be issued for major consultations, announcements, or during civil defence responses.”

Mr Crockett says the newsletter will also be printed and on display at our libraries.

Anyone wanting to receive the newsletter will need to sign up at pncc.govt.nz/palmymatters.

Mayor Smith is encouraging people to sign up to receive the newsletter by registering on our website.

“If you’ve got friends or family who don’t often visit our website or use social media, encourage them to sign up, too. Just head to www.pncc.govt.nz/palmymatters.”

Everyone who signs up before 15 December goes in the draw to win a double pass to both nights of NZ Superstock Teams Champs 2026 over Waitangi weekend at our CET Arena.
