Become a Palmy Play Champion
A Play Champion is someone who believes play is important for wellbeing, connection and fun at every age. Someone who wants to help create or advocate for more playful opportunities in their community. Together with Sport Manawatū, we run the Palmy Play Champions Network and always welcome new members.
If you’re interested in getting involved, please get in touch at: communitydevelopment@pncc.govt.nz
What Play Champions do
- Notice big or small opportunities to add play into everyday places (streets, parks, libraries, events)
- Support or lead local play ideas or activities
- Encourage others to get involved or think differently about play and its value to our communities
- Share ideas, feedback and local knowledge with Council, the network, and the wider community
Play Champions don’t need to be experts, just passionate locals who see the value of play.
Who can be a Play Champion?
Anyone, including:
- Parents, grandparents and caregivers
- Tamariki, rangatahi and older people
- Community group members and volunteers
- Educators, artists, designers or health workers
- Local organisations and neighbourhood leaders
