Supporting young people in Palmy

We want a strong, connected community where young people feel included and able to take part.

As part of our Community Support Plan, we deliver services, programmes and spaces that support young people to try new things, connect with others and be active in their community. These initiatives include:

Youth work support
Leadership and development programmes
Youth-led events and activities
Opportunities to connect with Council and the wider community

We also work closely with schools, support services and community organisations to deliver shared programmes.

Youth Space, a place rangatahi can call their own

Youth Space, next to the Central Library, is a safe and welcoming hub for young people aged 13 to 19.

Youth Council: leadership, learning and impact

Youth Council represents young people aged 12–24 from across Palmerston North. Up to 20 Youth Councillors serve two-year terms.

These funds help rangatahi aged 12–24 lead projects, events or activities that increase youth participation in arts, sports, learning and community life.
